[The rest of the team is concerned. Kin can see that plainly. The humans are taut, and growing moreso at the sight of their Flag fraying. If Talbot asks for him then Kin will answer the call, but until then...

He approaches with his usual lumbering gait, and doesn't announce his presence any more than that. He's not the sort of person you don't see coming. When he crouches down next to their Flag he makes sure he isn't too close, but he's close enough to keep their conversation between the two of them.]

You shouldn't. The others won't hesitate to restrain you. I wouldn't like to see that, for their sakes and for yours.

Or woman.

[Tir says it dismissively; the man's already proven himself an idiot, blabbing on about whatever it was, and she places a hand on her chin, turning to examine their surroundings.]

What are you all able to do?

Nothing so impressive as you, madam. Departing your own body and travelling the spirit realm sounds interesting, but I'm afraid it's little use to use at the moment.

[Tsing brushes his hair back over his shoulder, then indicates everyone in turn, offering a quip or description about their power. However, he avoids mentioning the man crouching invisible behind a barrier of his own creation, mostly to see if anyone else is able to detect him.

He ends with.]
And I, of course, am able to read your minds. I do apologise for the inconvenience.

[More than anything, he wants to tell them that he can defend himself. Focus on finding a means to escape—focus on something that won't end with heaps of bodies lain at his feet again. There is no one here he counts dear; that means all his closest advisers will be elsewhere.

Oberin sighs.]

I agree with Laurence. We may be able to bait them into the trap if someone is able to act as decoy. I would volunteer to double-bluff, but that would put all of us at risk.

[Shryke turns his gaze on the stranger, nodding once.]

Yes. It would be best if someone could guard my body and the Flag, though.

[Thane's lip curls at the pithy little descriptions being offered, grip tightening on the hilt of his sword.

A mind reader. A useful tool, but only if you want to ruin the game for everyone else. This little mind spiller will tell him who he's supposed to kill, but Thane doesn't want that. He's doesn't want to share.]

If you've been reading where you're not wanted, then you already know I don't play well with other children.

[Thane draws his sword and points across the group, straight at the withering girl they've named as Flag. The girl they've tied his life to.]

Come with me if you want to stay alive. The rest of you, be good little lambs and run along to the slaughter.

No. [Mori walks forward slowly, and speaks with glinting authority. She doesn't want to hear arguments about this, least of all from Rhadimenthys—who she points at sharply.] You, Flag, will stay hidden, and so will they. I will act as the decoy.

[Because she can. Because she's fast, and can fight herself out of any corner. Because she can't ever be cornered, and she shows them, turning around and walking to the nearest wall and passing straight through.

She will be the decoy, because she will keep Rhad safe. Mori passes back through the wall, demonstration made, and dips her head.]

Stay safe, and I will lead our enemies to the trap. I won't be caught. I won't be killed.

[She doesn't look at Rhad. She doesn't want to see what they think.]

I shouldn't.

[He agrees, barely able to hear his own voice. I shouldn't. He knows it's true; he wants to know it's true. He looks around as though that will somehow make Leonel appear, like Leonel's the one who can resolve this sickened feeling in the back of his throat. Instead, there are only strangers, men and woman who are staring at him with revulsion in their gazes. One of them, he thinks he might recognise.

He punches once more, harder than before, and then pulls his hand back sharply, holding it to himself. Only then does he actually look at the person beside him—he's surprised, but not as repelled as he could be. There's kindness in this person. He doesn't understand why, but there is.

He isn't able to say anything else.]
